This class series is an in-depth study of Robert Thurman's translation of The Holy Teaching of Vimalakirti. Vimalakirti is considered to be an emanated incarnation of the Buddha, a living allegory, and a vehicle of the highest teaching. It is believed that everything he does is solely for the purpose of developing and liberating living beings. What makes Vimalakiriti so relevant for us is that he is a lay person who offers liberating techniques such as the reconciliation of dichotomies. Through Vimalakirti we see the complementarity of the 'positive approach' of the Avatamsaka and the 'negative approach' of the Prajnaparamita. It is a wonderful text filled with stories of Buddha's disciples, a goddess and wondrous Vimalakirti miracles.
